Don't {Pool} Fence Me In

Well Christmas is just about here. And with Christmas in Queensland comes heat and with heat comes the desire for water. Many a home owner has caved and dug themselves a pool after a 40+ degree summer's day.

And to welcome the season further the Queensland Government has passed 150 new pool fence regulations for pool owners. Changes must be immediately adhered to or the owner risks fine for non compliance. I understand the need for regulations and the protection of our future generations. If these rules could save one child I think they would be worth while. But is this politics gone mad or another council money grab?

Here are some of the rules that have been bought to our attention to date:
  • Your pool area must be free and clear from and movable object such as: chairs, tables, swings, and ladders any object that can be moved up to fence to gain access to climb over fence.
  • All trees vines shrubs that can be climbed must be cut out or removed within 1.5 meters from pool fence.
  • Minimum height for pool fence should be no less than 1200 millimeters ( 1.2 meters).
  • If fence is next to an incline or bank that encroach fence horizontal or vertical must be leveled back from fence to 1.5 meters.
For more information contact your local council or email us.
